Match Report: Newbridge Town 4-2 Seaford FC
LSL Saturday Major 1C
Seaford gave a spirited performance in County Kildare but ultimately fell short against a much improved Newbridge Town side, on a day when luck deserted the Penguins completely.
Having lost their keeper on the morning of the match, outfielder Zitian Xiang was forced to don the gloves and while he gave an excellent performance in the circumstances, it was far from an ideal situation for the visitors.
Newbridge broke the deadlock after just six minutes, when Dean Conroy was adjusted onside despite appeals and he squared for Aaron Clancy to smash the ball home. Seaford rallied in the middle of the half with Oussama Belghazi having their first sight at goal before Greg Hughes met a Ciaran Staunton cross but headed straight at Dominick Sprinceana.
And the Penguins levelled on 27 minutes as Belghazi played in Espoire Lutete who finished nervelessly for his first ever Seaford goal.
The hosts bounced back and Clancy out to have bagged a second when put though one on one, but instead it was Jack Foley Donohoe who made it 2-1 with a curling finish from the edge of the box.
Seaford were left with an uphill task once Belghazi was given a second yellow apparently as a result of mistaken identity, particularly when Foley Donohoe made it 3-1 from Luke Mahon's assist,
But the visitors made a game of it courtesy of a Timi Silva penalty after Desmond Eiffe was brought down in the box, and Hughes almost managed to fashion an equaliser.
However, Newbridge had the final say when substitute Aidan Prestreshi cut in from the left and converted past Xiang to complete the scoring and keep the Kildare men clear at the top of the table.
Seaford: Zitian Xiang, Aaron Clarke, Craig Conlon, Christian Oggel (Jamie Thompson, 84), Dan Keegan, Mate Salacan (Desmond Eiffe, 67), Greg Hughes (Cormac McLoughlin, 79), Timi Silva, Oussama Belghazi, Espoire Lutete, Ciaran Staunton (Shane Halpin, 67)
Newbridge Town: Dominick Sprinceana, Adam McHugh, Daire Coleman, Alan Tracey, Adam Balmer, Paul Roberts, Dean Conroy, Jack Foley Donohoe, Luke Mahon, Thomas Morrin, Aaron Clancy
