Match Report: Mount Merrion 4-0 Seaford FC
Carroll Cup Quarter Final
Mount Merrion eased into the semi-finals after trouncing Seaford at Oatlands.
The hosts comfortably dominated possession during the first half , and deservedly opened the scoring when Callum Dunne rose at the back post to head home Conor O’Buachalla’s corner .
The visitors had been restricted to fitful counter-attacks, as the young Merrjon side threatened with quick breaks and slick combinations around the penalty area, albeit without creating many serious chances.
Five minutes after half time, O’Buachalla laid in Christian Buckley to make it 2-0.
The Penguins gained a foothold in the game after that and were gifted a chance to pull one back just after the hour mark when keeper Cormac Curran played it straight to Timi SIlva but the Seaford sub dragged his shot just wide.
But the outcome was put beyond doubt when Jake Murray smashed home from close range on 65.
Silva clipped the post with a curling cross that Jamie Thompson almost converted, but that as close as the yellows came as Merrion saw the tie out very comfortably with Daniel Drimba adding a fourth in stoppage time.
