M.J. Tierney
Position: M L
Formerly a star intercounty footballer with Laois, MJ joined Seaford in late 2016 and immediately impressed with his ballskills, work-rate and ferocious left footed strike.
He marked his debut for the club with a stunning last-minute free kick to decide a Leinster Junior Shield clash against Frankfort, earning him a call-up to the first team a month later, only for injury to rule him until the early weeks of 2017, when he returned to deliver a number of further impressive displays for the seconds. MJ continued to showcase his exceptional set-piece ability with two more free kicks late in the season, first against Cloghertown United before finishing the seconds' season with a spectacular 94th minute winner against Kill Celtic. He established himself with the first team in the 2017/18 season, netting four more stunning free-kicks as well as a series of other impressive goals and assists. A darling of the home crowd at Rockfield Park it was only late in the 2018/19 campaign that MJ finally managed to score a goal away from home, netting a penalty in the Premiers' draw at Balbriggan. The 2021/22 campaign saw MJ bag another five free kicks, and two more direct from corners, as he enjoyed his best season yet in terms of both goals and assists. He found himself redeployed at left back during the 2022/23 season but it didn't impede his goal contributions, the highlight being a sensational 35-yard lob in the win at Glebe North. In 2023/24, MJ brought up his century of appearances for the club, during another campaign of strong performances. |
