Seaford's answer to John Terry - captain, leader and legend - first joined the club in 2005. He soon established himself as a key member of Alan Zambra's first team, and he earned the first of a record-breaking three player of the year awards in 2007.
A powerful central midfielder who was equally adept at recovering the ball with a crunching tackle as driving the team with a buccaneering forward run, the Louth man was appointed captain by Ronnie McLoughlin and led it through one of the most successful periods in its history. Aided by his unerring ability from the penalty spot, he was more prolific in front of goal than most of the club's strikers.
Hanners had a brief but crucial cameo off the bench as the second team won the Lynch Cup in 2014, setting up the crucial second goal for Collie Barrett with virtually his first touch. The following year he was produced some of his best football during a difficult season for the firsts, again earning the recognition of his peers with another Player of-the Year award, before hanging up his boots in 2015.
