Match Report: Lucan United 1-2 Seaford Rock United
LSL Saturday Major 1B
Seaford showed some guts to pull a win out of the bag in the face of difficult circumstances courtesy of midfielder Andy Roe's brace.
It was an especially impressive display from the navy blues to come less than 48 hours after their excruciating home loss against CIE Ranch, and despite finishing the match a man short due to injury, they somehow found the energy to claim all three points.
Seaford failed to make the most of their first half possession, although Sam Browne went close, arriving at the back post to force the Lucan keeper to save with his legs, while at the other end Simon McGinty made a terrific reflex stop to deny a header late in the half.
Roe broke the deadlock early in the second half, starting and finishing a neat move when he arrived late in the box to force home a left-wing cross from James Thompson.
Lucan equalised through a penalty on 58 and it looked like the visitors' race was run as various players pulled up with injury. But with just ten left on the field, Roe stepped up again to secure the win with a breathtaking long-range strike. The move was started by Ian Nolan's break out of central defence, and a neat exchange with Darragh Connolly created the opportunity to Roe, who let fly from 25 yards and picked out the top corner, prompting raucous celebrations.
There was still plenty of defending to do for the Seaford, with McGinty making another great stop in injury time to help over the line, but they clung on to make it 6 points from the opening three matches in Major 1B.
Seaford: Simon McGinty; Mike O'Neill (Matt Sheehan, 65), Gavin Walsh, Stephen Kelly, Ian Nolan; Sam Browne, Andy Roe, Chris Monk; Darragh Connolly, James Thompson; Collie Barrett (Oli Wright, 54). Goals: Roe (49, 87)
