Match Report: Lorcan Celtic 1-2 Seaford Rock United
LSL Saturday Premier 1
Seaford ground out a hard-fought away win to lift themselves away from the Premier 1 danger-zone, courtesy of a late goal from substitute Shane McNamara.
It was an impressive turnaround for Eoin Dunne's men given that the same opponents had only a few weeks earlier cruised to a 6-0 win at Rockfield Park, and it was all the more remarkable for the fact that Seaford managed it without a recognised goalkeeper, as striker Mark Sullivan donned the gloves for the first time.
It was an uneventful first half for Sullivan as the visitors' defence were effective on limting Lorcan's chances to a minimum. Midfielder Rory O'Huiginn was in superb form for the men in maroon, at one point slaloming past four opponents before seeing his left-footed strike fly inches past the post.
Seaford opened the scoring after the break through prolific winger Conan Murphy. The Lorcan defence failed to deal with Eoin Mahon's right-wing cross, and Murphy was able to gather the ball before picking his spot in the bottom right corner, but the hosts responded quickly with an equaliser from close range as a tiring Seaford defence let a ball bounce in their goalmouth.
The visitors nearly regained the advantage when Ian Nolan met an Alex Smirnoff corner on the half volley, but it was two of Dunne's substitutes who combined for the late winner. Nolan released Ryan Scollard down the left side, who did brilliantly to evade several opponents before cuting back for McNamara to finish.
Seaford managed to cling on for a gutsy win - their first on the road this season, to move level with Lorcan on the table on six points.
Seaford: Mark Sullivan; Eoin Mahon, David Mackey (Luke O'Sullivan), Ian Nolan; Adam Finnegan, Rory O'Huiginn, Matt Sheehan, Mate Salecan (Brian Mullally), Conan Murphy, (Alex Smirnoff), Shane Gilroy (Shane McNamara), Carl Doyle (Ryan Scollard). Goals: Murphy, McNamara
