Match Report: Lorcan Celtic 0-3 Seaford Rock United
Wynne Cup, Second Round

Seaford’s Wally Wynne Cup campaign got off to a winning start with a comprehensive 3-0 win away to Lorcan Celtic on a blustery day in Lorcan Green in Santry.
It was not a day for passing football, with the early exchanges seeing both sides getting used to the conditions. The visitors used the significant wind to their advantage, with Eoin Healy’s long throws causing untold hassle to the home defence.
In the 25th minute, Healy launched another trademark delivery from the touchline and it was met with a towering Mate Salacan header from 6 yards, which arrowed into the top corner. Celtic came into the game after the goal, with Karl Andrews runs from deep creating space and he set up Peter Maxwell for shot that was easily dealt with by David Higgins in the Seaford goal.
Debutant Alistair Murphy hard running gave the hosts problems and his cross almost reached Stephen Hickey at the back post. 1-0 at the break.
Playing into the wind in the second half, the experience of the Seaford defence shone through as Lorcan tried to make inroads. Full-backs David Mackey and Brian Murphy cut off the supply lines and Higgins handling was excellent throughout. In the 76th minute, captain Steve Kane’s through ball eluded Joseph Harry in the Celtic goal and Colin Barrett pounced for his 8th of the season.
Barrett’s 9th was soon to follow, when he raced onto Higgins long kick and was taken down by Sean McDonnell for a penalty, which he dispatched into the roof of the net.
Seaford closed out the game and look forward to a home quarter final on the 7th May
