Match Report: Liffey Wanderers 2-5 Seaford
LSL Saturday Major 1
The Penguins produced a scintillating performance to win the relegation six-pointer at Irishtown Stadium.
Jack Keegan took home the match ball courtesy of a clinical hat-trick but it was a dominant team display from Seaford, even with an outfielder in goal for a third of the match.
Both sides were denied by narrow offside decisions in the opening stages - Rob O'Shea for the visitors and Jake Ellis for Liffeys - before Conor Fennell broke the deadlock, arriving at the back post to convert O’Shea’s sumptuous pass.
The hosts rallied and almost leveled through Lee Harrison but Keegan managed to head the ball off the goalline, but Seaford mantained a big threat going in the other direction and were unlucky not to add to their lead before half time.
Instead , they had a big let-off thirty seconds after the restart when Ellis ran on to Ciaran McGlynn’s flick-on but shanked his shot wide ,
And that proved to be a turning point as the Penguins added two more in the space of four minutes, First, the two wingers combined again as Fennell tenaciously recovered the ball to set up O’Shea’s emphatic finish, and then striker Michael Akingbade showed great awareness to tee up Keegan who made it 3-0 with his left .
Akingbade was twice denied by brilliant Sean Brazil saves but there was a major blow for the navy blues when keeper Oisin Geoghegan was forced off by injury, but any nerves were settled when Keegan made it four , converting from the spot after Brazil had taken down Niall Holleran.
Stand-in netminder Eoin Mahon could do nothing to prevent Dylan Murphy pulling one back for Liffeys with ten to play, but the Seaford back four, brilliantly led by Al Kennedy, and Craig Conlon, was resolute and if anything a Seaford goal looked more likely,
So it proved in stoppage time when Keegan completed his hat-trick after good work from Holleran and Oussama Belghazi, with Callum Coad heading in a consolation for the hosts with virtually the last action of the match.
