Match Report: Liffey Wanderers 1-2 Seaford Rock United
LSL Major 1 Saturday
Seaford rode their luck at times but held on to secure the three points, and maintain their excellent away form in this Major 1 campaign.
It was a dream start for the Penguins, as an error from Liffeys keeper James Mooney gifted a chance to Dave Lewis, who still had a lot to do to finish from a tight angle and open the scoring after just two minutes.
Lewis was inches from bagging a second on five minutes when he headed against the bar, but it should have been all-square shortly after , as amie Wilson somehow managed to head the ball onto the turf and then over the bar, from just a couple of yards out.
But when he did notch his second, it was worth the wait, as he unleashed a breathtaking strike from 35 yards that somehow dipped under the crossbar, clattering off both posts before nestling in Mooney's net.
Wilson saw another header clip the post, and late in the half there were golden chances at both ends within the space of 60 seconds, as Oisin Geoghegan denied Paul Mooney from point blank range , before Lewis Cawley laid in Stephen Canavan, only for the Liffeys keeper to make a fine stop
Seaford’s goal led a charmed life early in the second half as Liffeys hit the woodwork three more times, as big striker Gary Young was specially unlucky,, but the Penguins regained their footing in the game , with Chris Monk almost heading a third after winning the race to get to Geoghegan’s bouncing clearance
The hosts pulled one back when Young converted a stoppage time penalty, but Seaford defended resiliently and saw the game out to collect the win.
