Match Report: Leixlip United 4-2 Seaford FC
LSL Major 1 Saturday
It’s now five league games without a win for Seaford after another dismal defeat on the road.
The match was largely settled in the first half as Leixlip belied their position in the league table with a clinical attacking display to run up a three-goal lead.
For the second weekend in a row, Seaford were victim of a cruel deflection for the opening goal. as Alex Brady was tackled by Rob O'Shea before he could get his shot away and the ball somehow took a huge ricochet to give Eoin English no chance.
It was 2-0 on 15 minutes as Roberto Infantes Garcia got to the by-line and squared for Ayomide Agbele to tap in, and Zach Kelly curled in a free kick to make it three before the break.
Seaford changed things up for the second half and got a foothold in the game when Michael Akingbade showed great strength and composure to get in behind the Leixlip defence and slot home.
When the hosts restored their advantage courtesy of Kelly’s powerful strike from range, it looked like game over.
But the Penguins fought back Akingbade got in again but was denied by a superb save by Jamie Harrington, before Jack Keegan netted a brilliant finish with his left to give the visitors a lifeline.
Elridge Valois almost notched after Ben Kelly’s deflected shot broke his way, but a crucial intervention from a defender smothered his shot, and with three minutes to play, Brian Murphy saw his free kick crack off the inside of the post as Seaford’s chance slipped away.
Cup action next for Alan Burns’s side before they have the chance to rectify their concerning league form.
