Match Report: Knockmitten United 5-1 Seaford Rock United
LSL Saturday Premier 1
Seaford suffered a chastening defeat in Clondalkin as their struggle for early-season consistency continued in Premier 1.
Having bounced back from a heavy defeat by league-leaders Woodhazel with back-to-back wins on the road, Seaford were unable to make it a treble, despite having plenty of possession, as the hosts showed much for ruthlessness in the final third to secure a comfortable win.
Setting the tone for the game, Knockmitten scored from their first two attacks, with Karl Kelly nodding home a Cormac Kennedy cross from close range, before Craig Brennan smashed into the top corner to make it 2-0 inside 7 minutes.
Seaford recovered and had the better of the rest of the half, with David Higgins heading just wide from a David Mackey cross before setting up a great chance for Harry Crowe, but keeper Darren Green stuck out a leg to block the side-foot finish.
The Penguins went even closer on 36 when a trademark free kick from MJ Tierney rattled the woodwork as Green could only stand, watch and hope.
Instead, Knocker struck with a third goal before half time, with Kelly curling home after being laid in by Conor Byrne, and that took the wind out of the visitors entirely, whose second half display was limp.
The blues added two more in quick succession, a heavily deflected effort from Kennedy that lobbed into the net, and a tap-in from Brennan who followed up a rebound from Ensor's smart save, but a five-goal deficiit was harsh on Seaford and they at least earned something to show for their efforts when Eoin Mahon volleyed in from David Higgins's knock-down.
Seaford: Barry Ensor, , David Mackey (James Lynch, 51), Steve Kane (Bryan O'Gorman, 79), Eoin Mahon, Terry Dougan, Sam Browne (Niall Holleran, 57), David Higgins Darragh Roche, (Brian Mullally, 76), MJ Tierney, Collie Barrett (Francis Mulhall, 66), Harry Crowe
Knockmitten United: Darren Green, Shane McGrew, Robert McCardle, Sean O'Keefe, Liam McGuigan, Keane Lennon, Ryan O'Leary, Craig Brennan, Karl Kelly (Jack Brogan, 56), Conor Byrne, Cormac Kennedy
