Match Report: Kilnamanagh 1-2 Seaford Rock United
FAI Junior Cup, Round 3
Seaford Rock United advanced to the last 64 of the FAI Junior Cup with a gutsy display in adverse weather conditions at Ned Kelly Park and a superb 2-1 win away to perennial rivals Kilnamanagh.
The swirling winds made it a difficult for either side to play any football in a scrappy opening 20 minutes. Stephen Canavan had the first effort on target with a snapshot from the left hand side of the box that stung the keeper's hands as the visitors got a foothold in the game.
However, the home side took the lead when a through ball fell to the no. 9 who coolly slotted past the advancing Oisin Geoghegan. This forced Seaford into action and they got their reward just before the break.
Ryan Scollard swapped wings and immediately ran at the Kilnamanagh right-back, skipped past him, before coolly setting up Canavan for a well-deserved equaliser.
The conditions continued to deteriorate in the second half. Seaford looked secure at the back, with Eoin Mahon and Ian Nolan marshalling the defence, aided by the tireless running of Sam Browne in the middle.
Substitute MJ Tierney went close with two long range free-kicks, looking to take advantage of the wind. The game looked to be heading to extra-time until the away side found a way home.
Paul Tansey’s tireless running down the left, lead to a ball in with Scollard laid off to the advancing Al Kennedy, who brilliantly poked the winner with an improvised finish.
Seaford kept their shape during Kilnamanagh’s late siege and could have added a third, with Scollard going close twice late on. During 5 plus minutes of added time, the Penguins held on and were well worth their victory
Seaford: Oisin Geoghegan, Darragh Roche, Paul Tansey, Eoin Mahon (Cian McGuinness, 67), Ian Nolan, Oli Wright (Jack Burke, 62), Sam Browne, Al Kennedy, Lewis Cawley (MJ Tierney, 67) , Ryan Scollard, 68), Stephen Canavan (Mate Salacan, 82),
