Match Report: Kilmore Celtic 2-0 Seaford Rock United
LSL Saturday Premier
Seaford came off second best against league-leading Kilmore Celtic despite a spirited second-half display in Coolock.
The hosts were on the front foot from the start, with Craig Madden setting up Adam Miller, who shot just wide, and they opened the scoring on 20 with a superb goal, as Nev Keegan dug out a sensational curling cross for Madden to head home at the back post.
Keegan almost added a goal of his own, first firing a low shot wide before almost netting a sensational lob from near the sideline, but it was Madden who made it 2-0 late in the half, bursting through from deep before shrugging off a Seaford defender and firing home.
The first half had been one-way traffic but the Penguins made a bright start to the second. Ryan Scollard’s slide-rule pass was inch perfect to release Shane Halpin in behind , but Kilmore keeper Aaron Gaffney raced off his line to smother the effort.
Seaford were much more in the game during the second period but Celtic still posed a threat, with substitute Josh Gaffney foxing an excellent save with a low effort , before Madden missed a golden chance to complete his hat-trick.
The Penguins had a late flurry as the game slipped from their gasp, with Scollard put clean through by Conor Fennell’s flick-on, but when he opted to try to find teammate Antonio Beiramar. Gaffney was able to pounce on the misjudged pass. And deep into injury time Jimmy Hussey was inches from a spectacular effort from 25 yards , but by the stage the points were safe as Kilmore maintained their perfect start to the campaign
