Match Report: Killester Donnycarney 0-4 Seaford Rock United
LSL Sat Major 1A
Seaford maintained their strong start to the season following promotion with a comfortable away win on the northside, combining clinical finishing with a rock-solid defensive display.
It was Killester who had the better of the opening exchanges with Seaford keeper Neil Howarth twice called on in the first quarter of an hour, first parrying a header from Lloyd Buckley before making a great reaction save to keep out Josh Scully's low shot.
But the big Englishman had a quiet afternoon from that point on, as Seaford took control of the match, scoring three goals in less than ten minutes.
Cian McGuinness opened the scoring, freeing himself from his marker to chest home Darragh Connolly's free kick delivery from point-blank range, and Chris Monk made it two with a bullet header at the back post following a brilliant run and cross by Connolly.
And Connolly made it a hat-trick of superb assists when he tied Buckley up in knots before bursting past him and through on goal, and although Darren Stewart rushed off his line to block effort, Stephen Canavan was on hand to nod home the rebound.
The Penguins were entirely comfortable for the duration of the second half, as McGuinness and Stephen Kelly repelled every red attack, ably assisted by strong performances at fullback from Gavin Walsh and Paul Tansey, such that Howarth didn't have a single save to make. At the other end, Collie Barrett had a goal disallowed for offside after Monk had done well to keep the ball alive at the back post, before in injury time, another substitute MJ Tierney whipped home a trademark free kick to seal the Majors' biggest away win since November 2013, lifting the Penguins into the top three.
Seaford: Neil Howarth, Gavin Walsh (Al Kennedy, 69), Paul Tansey, Stephen Kelly, Cian McGuinness, Fionn Lawlor (Oli Wright, 61), Mike O'Neill (58) , Chris Monk, Darragh Connolly. Harry Crowe (MJ Tierney, 81), Stephen Canavan (Collie Barrett, 78).
