Match Report: Hyde Park 4-1 Seaford Rock United
LSL Sat Div 3
Seaford were well beaten by a physically dominant Hyde Park outfit, even if the scoreline somewhat flattered the home side.
The visitors edged the first half and were unlucky to find themselves a goal down at the break, having had the lion's share of the good chances. Inside two minutes, skipper Dave Devaney robbed the ball in midfield and burst forward only to fire just wide.
Tyrone McNelis, the architect of most Seaford chances, saw his low cross was deflected inches wide with strike partner Daire Ralph about to tap home, before Stephen Kelly burst forward from right back, drawing a smart save from Hyde keeper Andrew Healy, with Matt Tappin collecting the rebound only to see his chip bounce off the crossbar.
At the other end, Shane Laurtisch headed off the line to deny Richard Collins, before Eoin English produced a brilliant save to deny Wayne Morgan, who had run onto an errant backpass from Jim Nolan.
But English could do nothing to prevent Morgan opening the scoring on 28 minutes. His striker partner Peter Mulligan had been denied by Barry Kirwan's splendid saving tackle, but the ball broke favourably for Morgan, who nicked it around the Seaford keeper before slotting home.
The closest Seaford came to an equaliser was in the early momets of the second period, when fine interplay between McNelis and Nolan led to a chance for Andy Roe, but his powerful drive was parried away by Healy. The visitors struggled for fluency and rarely threatened after that point, even if Hyde were offered little in attack for much of the half. However, two quick goals from Collins ended the tie as a contest. The first was caused by a blunder from Devaney in his own penalty area, leading to Morgan squaring from the left wing for man-of-the-match Collins to convert from close range, before the same man curled home a 25 yard free-kick for 3-0.
McNelis pulled one back with five minutes to play, racing on to Nolan's through-ball before firing home, and sub Dave Mackey had a fine opportunity to make it 3-2 but blazed over the bar. And in injury time, Hyde Park grabbed a fourth, with substitute Daniel Murray punishing Laurtisch's heavy touch before finding Mulligan, who made no mistake from six yards.
