Match Report: Glenville 1-1 Seaford Rock United
LSL Saturday Major 1
Glenville equalised with the very last kick of the game to deny Seaford a hard-earned win in Palmerstown.
Missing a number of key players, it was a superb battling display from the Penguins, particularly during the first half when they made most of the running. Ryan Scollard was to the fore as ever, firing into the side netting with the game’s first effort, before producing a fine strike off the left which left Brendan Ruddy rooted to the spot but flew just past the point.
At the other end his brother Craig did well to deny Eoin McCann with his feet, but most of the chances were for Seaford. Darragh Roche produced a brilliant whipped cross which barely eluded both Scollard and Lewis Cawley, before the best chance of the half failed to scholars, ran onto a Dan Kennedy flick-on, but was unable to beat Ruddy.
Shortly after half time, posts or two I’ve taken the lead when Tom Wynne somehow blazed over the bar from 5 yards with the goal of his mercy. And Stephen Holmes also went close for Glenville, seeing his back post, the crossbar
But it was the visitors in the front through Scollard , Who collected a precise cross from MJ Tierney Before lashing Home from 15 yards
That was Scollard’s 17th goal in 12 matches and it should have been 18 when he and Rob O'Shea found themselves in on goal but a brilliant covering tackle saved the day for Glenville.
The makeshift Seaford defence produced a sturdy display until the final 10 minutes when Glenville began to apply real pressure. Stand-in fullback Conor Fennell produced a sensational last ditch tackle to deny the substitute Mahady , before Liam Masterson headed Holmes’s corner inches wide .
The hosts were going closer and closer now, with defender Andy O’Reilly pressed into service up front and almost bagging. The game had ticked into the ninth minute of injury time when they finally leveled. From one final desperate punt forward by Ruddy, Seaford won the first ball but not the second and Liam Brady lashed the ball into the corner of the net , just in time for the final whistle.
