Match Report: Glebe North 1-2 Seaford Rock United
LSL Major 1 Saturday

A wondergoal from Seaford sharpshooter MJ Tierney secured a comeback win for the Penguins in their first match of 2023
Neither side showed any signs of rustiness after a month off, producing a lively opening to the game, with Stephen Canavan firing just wide from a tight angle in the opening minute before Glebe hit the front just a minute later, when Dami Folaji slid Benny Liswonga in behind the Seaford defence, and the striker slotted home.
But Seaford continued to have the lion’s share of chances, with Canavan firing just wide with his left after being teed up by Ryan Scollard, before Scollard himself went close, smashing one in the turn, but it was comfortably dealt with by Arron Kiernan.
The Penguins flew out of the traps after the break, with Al Kennedy releasing Scollard, but the Seaford winger’s attempted chip was just too high.
The pressure finally fold on 50 minutes when Canavan volleyed home from close range after Dan Kennedy had picked him out at the back post.
Glebe’s pace on the break continued to cause the visitors problems, such as when Ryan Edwardson sped onto a loose backpass and forced a fine save from Oisin Geoghegan.
But it was Tierney who produced the game’s outstanding moment with 20 to play, pouncing on a loose ball and spotting Kiernan off his line before lifting an inch-perfect lob over his head and under the crossbar.
Chris Monk almost added a third with a back heel after Scollard had led a quick counter-attack, but as the game ticked towards full time, it was Glebe who did most of the attacking. Despite a couple of hairy moments, the Penguins rearguard held strong to complete the double over the Balbriggan men and maintain the unbeaten league run which has run stings the opening game of the campaign.
Seaford:, Oisin Geoghegan, Darragh Roche, MJ Tierney, Dave Lewis (Conor Geoghegan, 59), Oliver Wright, Al Kennedy, Jimmy Hussey, Dan Kennedy, Ryan Scollard, Lewis Cawley (Mike O'Neill, 80), Stephen Canavan (Chris Monk, 75)
Glebe North: Arron Kiernan, Sean Hughes, Conor Costello, Aidan Bissett, Anthony McGuinness, Mark Murray (Rob Cashman, 56), Anto Sosso, Dami Folaji, Benny Liswonga, Ryan Edwardson, Ryan Bissett (Jomi Aduka, 61)
