Match Report: Galty Celtic 3-1 Seaford FC
LSL Major 1C
Seaford ended their Major 1C campaign with madcap match at Brickfield Park, as both sides scored one penalty and missed another.
Galty were already confirmed in the promotion spots prior to kick-off, but Seaford might have been front after fifteen seconds when Timi Silva laid in Michael Akingbade but he was denied by Edward Curley. Instead it was the hosts who opened the scoring from their first attack. Jared Gutherless did well to parry a rocket of a shot from Conor Kearns but Kenzie Fitzgerald converted the rebound.
It got worse on 12 minutes when Fitzgerald made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Gutherless was harshly penalised having seemed to have claimed the ball at a striker’s feet.
It was Seaford’s turn for a soft penalty on 22 when Stephen Mills was adjudged to have handled in the area but Curley saved Desmond Eiffe’s spot-kick.
Although the needed a goalline clearance from Jamie Thompson to keep them in the game, Seaford got well on top towards the end of the half, with Akingbade denied by Curley again before Oussama Belghazi saw his powerful follow-up blocked, and then Sam Browne’s clever free kick found Eiffe, who didn’t manage to beat Curley but was unable to reach the ball to tap it in.
Remarkably, the first half saw a third penalty kick when Akingbade was barged by Darren Gray, and Silva lashed home to make it 2-1 at half time.
Sean Frazier added Celtic’s third on 57 and the game became stretched and scrappy. Seaford missed countless presentable opportunities, including when Belghazi laying Akingbade in again, before he slotted just wide. And at the other end Galty should have added to their lead , but found Gutherless in top form , as he saved yet another penalty to deny Fitzgerald‘s hat-trick as well as pulling off some other excellent stops.
