Match Report: Finglas United 5-0 Seaford FC
LSL Major 1 Saturday
Seaford slumped to a heavy defeat on the northside as they were outclassed by a brilliant Finglas United side.
While the scoreline was a harsh reflection on a spirited Penguins display, there was no doubting there was a yawning gulf between the sides , as Finglas punished every Seaford ruthlessly.
But there was an element of fortune to the opening goal on 10 minutes, as Dean Moran got in behind the Seaford defence saw his finish take a lucky deflection on its way past Eoin English.
Colin Eccles doubled the lead after a slick one-two and Jason Doyle clipped the post for Finglas after a mazy dribble from left back.
It wasn’t one-way traffic and Jamie McCaul had a golden chance to halve the deficit when he found himself clean through but Gary Roche pulled off a superb save to deny him.
However the hosts continued to make most of the running , with Moran hitting the post from range, and English making a stunning intervention to divert Kyle O’Neill’s rebound onto the post.
Seaford stirred after the break, with Elridge Valois almost getting in from MJ Tierney’s ball, but Adam Tierney managed to make a desperate saving tackle, while at the other end only an acrobatic goalline clearance from Brian Murphy stopped Moran adding to his tally.
But Finglas pulled clear in the final 20. First, skipper Gary O’Connor headed home at the back post from Sean Gorman’s flick-on, before Dylan Kelly finished a counterattack in emphatic style, and in injury time Eccles completed the scoring with a tap-in.
In between, the veteran keeper English had produced more heroics to keep the scoreline respectable - notably with a fine doubel-save to keep out the lively winger Eccles - but overall it was an afternoon to forget for the Penguins, who will be grateful they don’t face the same level of quality every week.
