Match Report: Fairview Celtic 1-3 Seaford Rock United
LFA Junior Cup
Ryan Scollard banged in a worldy as Seaford recorded their first away win of the season, seeing off a spirited Fairview Celtic side to reach the third round of the LFA Junior Cup.
It was a heavily depleted Seaford side, but a few old favourites came out of temporary retirement to make up the eleven, and despite the gale force winds at Dublin Port Stadium, the Penguins took control of the game from the early stages. They opened the scoring inside ten minutes when Ben Kelly pounced to make a midfield interception, before sliding Scollard through on goal and Seaford's leading marksman made no mistake.
The rest of the half was largely played in Fairview's half but Seaford struggled to create clearcut chances until shortly before the half-time whistle, when Rob O'Shea ran clean through on goal and skipped past the keeper, only to miscue the finish with the goal at his mercy.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Seaford largely in control of the game but with few opportunities until a flurry of goalmouth activity around the halfway mark. First, Adam O'Shea doubled the Penguins' lead with a tap-in after Dan Kennedy picked him out at the back post, before Ian Maher headed one back for Fairview from close range.
But then came the outstanding moment of the match as Scollard took aim from 30 yards and unleashed a rocket that would have landed in Dublin Bay but for the top corner of the net.
Seaford might have added some sheen to the scoreline during the final stages, but were content to see out the result in the hope that it will kick-start what has been a disappointing campaign so far.
Seaford:, Oisin Geoghegan, Darragh Roche, Paul Tansey, Brian Murphy Al Kennedy, Rob O'Shea, Ben Kelly (Colin Barrett, 66), Dan Kennedy, Adam O'Shea (Finn O'Neill, 80) Chris Monk, Ryan Scollard
