Match Report: East Wall Rovers 5-0 Seaford Rock United
LSL Saturday Premier 1
East Wall were too clever and too clinical for Seaford, running out comfortable winners in this Premier 1 clash.
The hosts were sharp but the visitors were sluggish, which was illustrated by the first two goals, both resulting directly from quickly taken East Wall free kicks in their own half. The opener was an own goal by Seaford winger Brian Mullally, who attempted to make a recovery tackle when Jonathan Quinn had got in on goal only to divert the ball past Oisin Geoghegan.
Geoghegan kept Seaford in the game on the half hour mark, saving Gareth Rock's penalty after Matt Sheehan had fouled Kian Doranm and the visitors were inches from an equaliser when Rory O'Huiginn burst through midfield to find Shane Gilroy, whose left-wing cross was marginally too high for skipper Carl Doyle, who couldn't quite direct his header into the net from close range.
The hosts put the outcome beyond doubt with two Ryan Savage goals in the final sixty seconds of the half, as he first ran onto another quickly taken free kick to finish, before firing home from range after a defensive slip.
With the game all but lost, Seaford showed signs of life after the break, with Piers Shelton volleying just wide with his left before Ryan Murphy was forced into an impressive double save, with Gilroy testing him from range before O'Huiginn was unable to net the rebound from a tight angle.
As it was, the northsiders added to their margin of victory. Their fourth was a fine goal, with Rock scooping the ball through to Savage, who showed great composure to dummy inside a defender before completing his hat-trick, and Darren Byrne set up Peter Dunne for a late fifth to complete the scoring.
