Match Report: Dundrum 3-3 Seaford Rock United
LSL Saturday Major 1B
Seaford's promotion hopes are in danger of evaporating after another sloppy display cost them dearly, allowing relegation battlers Dundrum to come from two goals in front to grab a late equaliser.
Dundrum took an early lead when centre back Ciaran Aherne was allowed to burst unchallenged through the heart of the Seaford defence before finishing past Oisin Geoghegan, but the visitors leveled on 29 minutes through Stephen Canavan, who was put through by Paul Tansey before curling home from a tight angle.
The visitors put themselves in a commanding position with two goals late in the half, the first a brilliant volley on the spin from Alex Smirnoff, the second a spectacular bullet header from Sam Browne from Smirnoff's drilled corner.
But Dundrum were always well in the game, and twice hit the post in the second half, first with an Aherne header, and later from a Damian Duffy volley, before Aherne got his second of the match on 64 minutes, firing a low shot just inside the near post.
Seaford were inches from sealing the points when Harry Crowe, at full stretch, could only divert a Canavan cross wide from a couple of yards out, before disaster struck in the 85th minute when, with his first touch after coming on, Kevin Walsh let go of a 25-yard pot-shot which dipped just under the crossbar.
Even after being reduced to ten men following a straight red card handed to Niall Kelly, it was the hosts who went closest to a winner in the last minute, as Duffy was denied by Geoghegan before Pol Auledell missed the target whilst unmarked with the goal at his mercy.
Seaford: Oisin Geoghegan; Stephen Kelly, (Steve Kane, 69), Paul Tansey, 65, Ian Nolan, Fionn Lawlor, Sam Browne, Matty Sheehan, (Gavin Walsh, 82) David Higgins (Mike O'Neill, 76), Andy Roe (Alex Smirnoff, 17), Harry Crowe (Colin Barrett, 80), Stephen Canavan. Goals: Canavan (29), Smirnoff (41), Browne (43)
