Match Report: Dublin University 1-1 Seaford Rock United
LSL Saturday Major 1C
Seaford has most of the chances but only half of the goals during a scrappy game at College Green.
The Penguins took control of the game in the early stages and twice went close from set pieces in the opening seven minutes. First, from Zitian Xiang's long throw, Shane Halpin rolled his marker but fired just too high, before Halpin met a Mate Salacan corner at the back stick but headed against the post.
Trinity conceded plenty of territory but maintained a threat on the break, and Gareth Foynes saw his strike ruled out for offside after being laid in by Ranen McCormack.
And it was from another quick counter-attack that TCD took the lead, as Foynes got on the end of a long ball forward before firing past Bill O'Carroll.
Seaford contained to dominate most of the chances, with Niall Holleran firing just over from the edge of the box, and Shane Gilroy doing likewise from closer in, either side of half time. Then Eoin McArdle made a smart turn and put Halpin through, but James Magro blocked with his feet.
And it was no surprise that it was Halpin who finally made the breakthrough on 75 minutes, arriving on the scene to slot past Magro after the chance was eked out by substitute Jamie McCaul.
Neither side was able to generate any fluency during the closing period of the match, and the game fizzled out into Seaford's first draw of the season.
Seaford: Bill O'Carroll, Eoin McArdle, Zitian Xiang, Rob Maloney, Robbie Murray, Mate Salacan (Elridge Valois, 71) James Kearney, Desmond Eiffe (Jamie McCaul, 61) Niall Holleran, (Finn O'Neill, 88) , Shane Gilroy (Dan Willis, 61) Shane Halpin
