Match Report: Drumcondra 1-5 Seaford Rock United
LSL Sat Major 1A
Seaford bounced back from recent setbacks to record a handsome win on the northside.
The Penguins made the ideal start when Ryan Scollard met Fionn Lawlor’s cross with a measured header from the edge of the box that wrong-footed Joss Heffernan to open the coding after less than 60 seconds.
Scollard then laid in Paul Tansey, who made a clever run off the left wing but was unable to beat Heffernan in three attempts, the third of which rebounded from the post, before the visitors hit the woodwork again when Chris Monk met another Lawlor delivery with a bullet header that rattled the bar .
Seaford were dominating territory and the physical battle but Drumcondra found a foothold in the game towards the end of the half and leveled through Craig Kenna who pounced on a loose pass to bear in on goal and finish into the corner. And it could have been an unlikely turnaround just before the break when Mark Ralph volleyed just too high at the back post.
But the men in navy reasserted their superiority after half time , posing a constant threat from set plays , such as when Ian Nolan forced a goal line stop from Heffernan with Sam Browne lurking.
The breakthrough when it came , was a complete fluke , as Top scorer Monk charged down Josh Kennedy’s clearance , the ball rebounding into the empty net from 25 yards.
Moments later Scollard headed in another Lawlor cross to accord Seaford some breath if space, before substitute Darragh Connolly added two more, the first a stunning curling shot into the top corner and the second a calm finish one-on-one after a fine Jim Nolan assist.
Richie Sayers had made a smart save to deny the Drumcondra striker in between, but it was a rare threat from Drums who look destined to prop up the Major 1A table, while Seaford still have a lot of work to do to resuscitate their promotion push.
Seaford: Richie Sayers Darragh Roche (Jim Nolan, 75), Fionn Lawlor , Ian Nolan, Cian McGuinness, Sam Browne, Al Kennedy, Chris Monk, Paul Tansey (Stephen Canavan, 75), Mike O'Neill (Darragh Connolly, 70), Ryan Scollard ,
Drumcondra: Heffernan, Dong, Seun, Donohue, Darcy, Kenna , Ralph, Lawless, Power, Lee , Baek
