Match Report: DCU 1-2 Seaford Rock United
LSL Saturday Division 3
Seaford turned in a resilient and battling performance to record just their second win in seven to move up the Division 3 table courtesy of Ryan Scollard’s brace away at DCU.
The visitors ought to have put the game beyond doubt during a blistering first half hour, but were only able to register a single goal for all their domination. It was a simple but well worked effort, as Darren Grealish found David Devaney in midfield, and he brought the ball forward before laying Scollard in, the youngster dropping a shoulder to shake off an opponent before slamming the ball low past the keeper legs to open the scoring.
But Tony Bennett’s side took their foot off the pedal and let DCU back into the match, even if neither side looked especially threatening during a scrappy period of the game. However the students equalised when a floated left wing cross was headed in at the back post, and only a brilliant save from Simon McGinty prevented the hosts from taking the lead, as the Seaford keeper raced off his line to deny an opponent at the edge of his area.
Instead, it was Seaford who grabbed the winner, Scollard completing his second double in as many matches after a goalkeeping error presented him with a golden opportunity to slot home. DCU had a glden opportunity to claim a point in the dying moments when a ball across the face of goal form the left barely eluded two forwards sliding in, but it was the visitors who held on to all three.
Seaford: Simon McGinty; Shane Lauritsch, Robbie Murray (Shay Egan) Darren Grealish, Adam FInnegan, Gavin Walsh, David Devaney (Carl Doyle) Paidi O'Fatharta (Matt Tappin), Ryan Scollard Conan Murphy, (Mikey Kane), Peter Tierney .. Goals: Scollard (2)
