Match Report: Collinstown 2-2 Seaford Rock United
LSL Sat Major !A
It was a miserable outcome on a miserable afternoon for Seaford as they threw away a dominant position in sodden conditions in Coldcut.
The first half was largely a non-event, with both sides canceling each other out on a tight pitch. Darragh Connolly had Seaford's best chances at either end of the half, spinning on the edge of the box after twenty seconds only to see Damien Cuffe save his effort, and late in the first 45, he was laid in by his younger brother Garrett, but again Cuffe did well to prevent him skipping past him to finish.
In between, Al Kennedy had done well to prevent Collinstown's Yoanda Ilunga from finishing from a tight angle.
Seaford flew out of the blocks in the second half and should have put the outcome beyond doubt. Garrett Connolly netted twice in a minute, first racing on to Chris Monk's superb thought-ball and deflty beating Cuffe, before dispossessing David Gallaghan and adding a second.
Centre back Conor Harding was lucky to stay on the pitch after tripping Darragh Connolly as the the Seaford man bore in on goal, with Robbie Creevy stinging Cuffe's palms with the resulting free kick, and the younger Connolly and Stephen Canavan seemed to get in each other's way with the goal at their mercy as Collinstown's defence was in complete disarray.
But the game turned on its head after the hosts scored with their first shot on goal. Or rather, their first cross, as Dean Carpenter's curling free kick from near the right touchline eluded everyone and bounced in off the far post. Shortly after, Brian Coombes skipped along the Seaford touchline to set up Tony McKeever to equaliser, and from there the home side looked more likely to secure the win.
In the end neither team could net a third goal, making it one defeat in eight as they turn their attention to a trip to Verona in a week's time.
