Match Report: Bluebell United 4-5 Seaford Rock United
LSL Saturday Major 1
Four-goal hero Ryan Scollard bailed Seaford out got, netting a last-minute winner in a game after they had twice thrown away a two-goal lead.
It was a sloppy and lethargic display from the Penguins against one of their relegation riyals, but in the early stages it looked as though they would maintain their strong recent form, as Jimmy Hussey put Scollard through, only for Jason Cosgrove to make a fine save.
Darragh Connolly and Brian Murphy both had digs from range before Scollard’s opened the scoring on 23, speeding onto a Jamie McCaul assist to convert.
Bluebell bounced back strongly with 14 drawing a first save from Oisin Geoghegan before Tomose and Kamze both hit the woodwork within ten seconds.
Eoin Mahon doubled the visitors’ advantage with his first ever Majors goal, firing home after Ben Kelly had done well to keep a back-post corner alive, but two quick Bluebell goals turned the game on its head, First, Mohamad Abounda burst forward in a counter attack, feeding Harmony Mercer to score, before a brilliant solo goal from Othman Meflah made it 2-2.
But Scollard restored the Penguins’ lead by heading in an MJ TIerney delivery, and after the break completed his hat-trick with an even better header from Hussey’s corner.
Seaford threatened to run riot and should have been out of sight when Connolly and McCaul somehow got in each other’s way , failing to force the ball into into an empty net from a couple of yards out , before Tierney sauntered past a couple of defenders and crashed a shot against the bar. Then Scollard fired over from Connolly lay-in and Shane Halpin was denied by Cosgrove.
The introduction of midfielder Tayem Mercer helped turn the tide for the hosts however. Kamze set up Zindine to pull one back before with seven minutes to play they leveled in sensational fashion through Medahdegh, who spin brilliantly before slamming the ball into the net from 25 yards.
It looked like disaster had struck from Seaford in a match they had completely dominated , but with barely a minute to play a terrible defensive blunder let in Scollard one last time, and he bagged his fourth of the afternoon, his 25th of the season and all three points for Seaford.
