Seaford made it three win on the spin after an impressive team performance saw them prevail 1-0 over a determined Ballyfermot Unitied outfit.
A quiet opening quarter hour came to life when the visitors created a flurry of chances. Niall Holleran hit a rasping drive just over the bar from a narrow angle. Eoin Kenny went closer still when his header from Aaron Clarke’s corner hit the bar and was cleared. James Kearney had long range effort sail just wide. Zitian Xiang’s header went just past the far post. Paul Kavanagh and Kevin King both threatened the Penguins goal before Kenny put Desmond Eiffes low cross over the bar from close range.
Kenny went close again early in the second period before ’ Kearney forced a stunning save from Ballyfermot keeper Sean French. He then denied Eiffe, smothering a close-range effort before Kearney hit the bar from the rebound. The hosts then hit the post from Gerard McCarthy’s free-kick.
The winner came with 11 mins left. Mate Salacan’s free-kick was laid off by Rob Maloney and Kearney stroked home from 10 yards to notch the goal his performance deserved. The home side were reduced to 10 men and the boys in maroon held out for a well-earned victory.
