Match Report: Balbriggan 0-5 Seaford Rock United
LSL Premier Superleague Group B
Seaford’s Premiers returned to action with an emphatic victory away to Balbriggan. Both league games this season ended in 1-1 but the Penguins' clinical finishing saw them over the line to get their Super League campaign off to a winning start.
The home side made a strong start, with keeper Gavin Nugent dealing admirably with some early crosses and a long-range strike from Dylan Thomas. Liam Kirwan put an effort wide before getting his marching orders following a clash with centre-back Gavin Walsh.
The visitors took control and the lead midway through the half. Brian Murphy’s cross fell to Jamie McCaul who wrong-footed Rob Murray with a low strike from outside the box. Seaford doubled their lead after a swift move down the right found David Mackey in space and his pinpoint cross was headed home by debutant Ste Hickey. 2-0 at the break.
Balbriggan made a strong start to the second half and had a penalty shout turned down. On 55 minutes, Murphy’s pin-point free-kick from near the halfway line found substitute Alex Sinnott in space and he squared for Colin Barrett to score from six yards out. The hosts were then down to 9 men when they got another red card on the hour mark
Sinnott scored his first of the season after a superb early pass from Mate Salacan found Barrett in space and he unselfishly returned the favour for Sinnott to make it 4-0.
With 10 minutes left, Sinnott doubled his tally for the day after combining with fellow replacement Carl Doyle to finish emphatically low in the corner.
