Seaford Rock United
2023/2024 Season
MAJORS
Manager: Alan Burns
Assistant: Sam Browne
Player of the Year: Ryan Scollard
Majors Top Goalscorer: Ryan Scollard (29)
Majors - Most Assists: Ryan Scollard (7)
It was a tough campaign for Seaford in Saturday Major 1 but after bobbing around the relegation places for the entire season,, the Penguins showed their mettle with big results in clutch matches to pull themselves away from danger just in time.
As has become the norm in recent seasons, Seaford made a poor start. An opening-day shellacking against against a St Mochta's side featuring some of the top amateur players in the country began a run of just two wins in eleven that lasted well into 2024.
The run featured dismal exists from the external cup competitions against UCFL sides VEC and ROC Celtic, and just a single league win, albeit a very comprehensive one against Swords Celtic, which featured a hat-trick from Ryan Scollard,, who would go on to bag a club record tally of 29 goals during the season.
But overall it was a tale of disappointment for the men in navy, who conceded heartbreaking injury-time goals at home against both St Pats CY and Leixlip United.
In danger of sinking without trace at the foot of the table, the side was boosted by the return to the lineup of key midfielders Jimmy Hussey and Dan Kennedy in the second half of the campaign, and another win against Swords, this time in the Lanigan Cup - featuring another Scollard hat-trick - proved something of a turning-point.
There followed an impressive run in the league, featuring a comfortable win over promotion-chasing Verona and a crucial late victory against rivals Sacred Heart courtesy of Rob O'Shea's stylish 88th-minute winner. While the sequence was interrupted by defeats against the top two Home Farm and Mochtas, the Penguins got back on track with another big win at Swords and a late winner in a ding-dong against Bluebell.
Just when it seemed like Seaford would ease to safety, a terrible run of form saw them lose three on the bounce to put them right back in the soup.
Alan Burns's side faced their three consecutive six-pointers against their nearest rivals matches and, inspired by vocal new supporters on the sideline, they produced three of their best displays of the season, grinding out a win at home to Bluebell, before taking all three points from Sacred Heart and finally getting over the line with a 97th-minute equaliser against a hugely improved Glenville side, with a match to spare.

PREMIERS
Manager: Paulie Morris
Assistant: Mate Salacan
Premiers Player of the Year: Aaron Clarke
Premiers Top Goalscorer: Shane Halpin (7)
Premiers - Most Assists: Mate Salacan (5)
The Seaford Premiers produced another fine campaign under the leadership of Paulie Morris, recording a creditable top-half finish following promotion to the 15-team behemoth of Major 1C.
AFter a number of key men retired during the summer of 2023, Morris had a rebuilding job on his hands, but his side got off to a flying start with four wins on the bounce, as Palmerstown, Newbridge Town, St Paul's Artane and Manortown United were all dispatched with relative ease in the first month of the season. New signing Ben Kelly was a prominent player during that opening month, when Jamie McCaul produced the standout moment with a brilliant hat-trick at Manortown.
But that run of form came to a shuddering halt when the Penguins collided headlong with the division's top two sides in successive games, suffering heavy defeats against both Sandyhill Shangan and Ayrfield United.
Not to be deterred, the side bounced back with a couple of strong performances, recording handsome wins over Dunboyne and Blackrock College, before a James Kearney winner helped them grind out three points against Ballyfermot United,
But it never seemed likely that Seaford would be able to defy gravity and sustain an unlikely promotion push, and a run of just one win in five either side of Christmas caused another reality check.
Hope was restored by a brilliant away win against title-chasing Kilmore, with teenager Finn O'Neill producing one of the moments of the season with the crucial goal in the 88th minute. O'Neill bagged another screamer in the win over Dublin University on St Patrick;s weekend, but that was as good as it got for Morris's men, and here followed a dismal run of eight straight defeats as injuries and unavailability took their toll on the squad.
But the squad kept battling through adversity, buoyed by the introduction of some excellent additions like sturdy defender Dan Keegan, midfield baller Jack Keegan and prolific centre-back Owen Petticrew. And finally the tide turned, with a demolition of Manortown in the Rockfield Park sunshine, before in the final minute of the final match of the 28-game league season, Conor Fennell bagged a last-gasp winner against St Paul's to bring the curtain down on Paulie's brilliant managership in fitting fashion,
