Story of the Season: First Team
After back-to-back promotions, Seaford started the 2011/12 campaign playing in the LSL Major divisions for the first time in the club's history, with Alan Burns having replaced Ronnie McLoughlin as first team manager.
The season began with a dogged 2-1 win at Lorcan Celtic, the crucial second goal coming via captain Mark Hanratty's deflected free kick. There was disappointment a week later when Seaford were beaten 1-0 by Balbriggan. It was to prove the home side's only win of the entire campaign. Just a fortnight later, Seaford gained revenge by handing out a 9-1 shellacking at Rockfield Park, and when they followed it up with an impressive 2-1 win at Park Celtic (featuring Barry Shortt's first ever goal for the club, and a late winner headed by Francis Mulhall) to make it three wins from four, the club was very much looking up the table rather than down.
But the wheels started to come off in October and November, as Seaford took just one point from six matches, and even that was in very disappointing circumstances as they played against Leicester Celtic's ten men for more than 85 minutes and still couldn't secure the three points.
Seaford managed to stop the rot in December, first earning an impressive draw at Hyde Park, with Alan Henry on the scoresheet, before finally getting a win in the return fixture against Leicester.
It was a false dawn, however, as Seaford then lost six of their next seven league games, whilst Lorcan went on an extraordinary run to lift themselves out of the relegation mire. There was no lack of effort on the part of the navy blues, but time and again they were less clinical in opponent's penalty areas than rivals were in theirs.
A heartbreaking late defeat against ten-man Fettercairn on the penultimate weekend of the season left Seaford's fate out of their hands, needing a win over DCU on the final day, as well as Park Celtic to lose away at Cabinteely. Seaford endured a woeful first half against DCU, falling two goals behind, before star midfielders John Power and Mark Hanratty notched after the break, and Collie Dolan thumped home a famous winner with twelve minutes to play.
It was all in vain, however, as Park Celtic routed a dismal Cabo side later that afternoon to send Seaford back to Sunday Premier after just one season.

John Toomey took over the second team management role after Alan Burns's promotion to the firsts, and he endured a difficult start to life in Sunday Division 2. With a large number of new faces to integrate into the side, the team was unfortunate not to gain more than three draws from its openeing five matches.
The tide finally turned with a dramatic 4-2 win away at Lakelands, inspired by a brilliant display by 17-year-old centre forward Ryan Scollard, who lashed home the crucial third goal after racing onto keeper Mike Frawley's long punt forward.
The seconds showed their resilience with a dogged defensive performance to pilfer a 1-0 win over eventual champions Liffey Valley Rangers courtesy of captain Barry Kirwan's header, and November's back-to-bak wins away at Pegasus and then Dundrum ensured that there would be no repeat of the previous season's relegation anxiety.
In truth however, the seconds struggled with injuries and availability throughout, and the campaign never looked like offering anything more than that in what was a difficult year for the club as a whole. A rare highlight came via Amer Herenda's last-gasp equaliser away at Beechwood, and the side made a relatively strong finish, losing just one of the final five matches.
