Match Report: Liffey Wanderers 4-0 Seaford Rock United
LSL Sat Major 1C
Seaford's uneaten record at the start of the season came to a shuddering end as they were outclassed by a hugely impressive Liffey Wanderers side on Saturday night.
The visitors couldn't cope with Liffeys' shape, movement and tehcnical ability during a nightmare first half hour during which all of the goals were scored.
Dean Uzell was the main architect, with two goals and two assists. Seaford certainly contributed to their downfall for the two that Uzell scored himself. First, he ran on to a backpass by Jimmy Hussey, as Eoin English hesitated slightly whilst coming off his line, and his second followed a long ball from the left back zone which somehow caught the Seaford backline in disarray. In each case, Uzell calmly rounded English and tapped in.
In between, Uzell had set up Paul Mooney for an expertly taken sidefoot finish low to English's right, and then his square ball was deflected into the path of Dylan Murphy to lash into the roof of the net from close range.
The game was over as a contest at that point, but the shellshocked visitors finally managed to release some of the pressure during the rest of the opening period, and during the second half had the vast majority of the efforts on goal, as Liffeys focussed on managing the game out.
Sub Piers Shelton saw his left-footed drive tipped over by Liffeys stopper Enriquez, with Paddy Costello heading just wide from the resulting corner, before stand-in left back Darragh Connolly saw his powerful effort somehow rebound from both the crossbar and the post.
Late on, Paul Lydon almost managed to divert Mark Sullivan's effort into the net for a consolation goal, before English made a fine stop to deny Paul Mooney's shot.
In truth, the second half improvement is of little consolation to Seaford, who were comfortably and deservedly bested over the course of the 90 minutes. With four straight league wins already in the bank, however, it must still be viewed as a strong start to the campaign, and no doubt the side will be eager to get back on the pitch as soon as possible to return to winning ways.
Seaford: E English; J Nolan, D Connolly, P Costello, J Bannon; J Hussey, R O'Huiginn (P Shelton, 45), M O'Neill (c); S Faherty, S Kane (C Dolan, 45), P Lydon.
